Tips for the Children’s Talk – 1

It’s the point in the Sunday worship service that many ministers and pastors dread – the children’s talk! Some struggle on, some delegate the job to others. Whether you are a pastor or someone who has been delegated to talk to the children, you might be glad of a few tips to help you along.

The first tip is to remember that you don’t have much time. If you talk to the children regularly and you are out of your comfort zone, you might be glad of that! If you are keen to talk to the children but don’t get the opportunity very often you might want to do and say too much when the opportunity does come your way.

Making the best use of the time you have means, first of all, knowing why you are there. Contrary to what many people feel (though they’d probably never admit it) this is not the adult entertainment slot. Neither is the main aim to make the children feel a part of the worship service, although that may well be a side benefit. The main aim should be to teach from the Word of God as part of the whole act of worship with a particular focus on application to the children. This provides the filter which helps you decide what you say and do to make the best use of your time.
